Golden Rules For A Successful Website

Updated: May 13, 2021

There are certain things that can make or brake your website. So, give it some facelift by applying following tips. They won't be responsible for website's whole success but for quite a big part of it. Here are some things that your should be mindful of when creating or editing your website to bring positive results by being informative and user-friendly for its visitors.

1. Space on your website.

Space is a very important element of the design. It dictates how a user acquires information and if they feel like coming back. A user would never see a 'Shop now' or 'Register now' buttons if they were cluttered with a dozen other element around it.

2. Website layout.

Balanced layout is a good layout. This means that every element should be positioned keeping in mind its ‘visual weight’ where the most important information is highlighted. A good layout should encourage users to view more pages on the site, which is great for building relationship between a user and a brand. A useful tip: put the most 'visual weight' to the left side of the page (ex. home page). This set-up follows along with how people read information.

3. Calls to Action.

Calls to Action, or CTA, are one of the most important tools for conversion on your website. It can be 'Book now', 'Shop now', 'Register you seat', 'Call us', 'Discover more' etc. The list can be long. They help bringing users closer to the desired conversion, that's why it's extremely beneficial to make them very clear, obvious and strong.

4. Content and Consistency.

Good and friendly design together with interesting and useful content make a great website. Consistency is a key, it's a crucial piece of a puzzle. I can't stress enough what a huge part it plays in bringing back old and obtaining new users. Are you with me on that? Increased traffic will definitely give you more visibility and potentially conversions. Make your website worth visiting.

And if you are just in the beginning of your content creation career don't worry. Research your niche, and you will never lack ideas.

5. Navigation.

Try not to overwhelm users by keeping the number of navigation elements to a minimum. Of course, it all depends on your website structure and the type of business you are involved in.

6. Graphic material - videos, images, gifs.

Images and videos help you add emotions, raise interest or just visualise a piece of valuable information. Usually pictures of real people, especially smiling women, have higher chance to attract attention. Though, avoid using heavy graphic material. If what you wish to put on the website is heavy, please, use a compressing tool, but try not to compromise on the quality of material.

7. Chose your fonts wisely.

It's is strongly recommended to keep amount of fonts on yours website low - up to 3. Having more than that will look unprofessional and will effect how your website is perceived. Try choosing the fonts that are easy to read, at least for the main text or the most important information. Sans-serif fonts would probably be the best option for that. This type of fonts has no extensions on the end of letter strokes.

8. Mobile first.

Always think mobile first. Many still underestimate the importance of this mindset. More than 70% of traffic comes from mobile phones. That's why a responsive and understandable design will increase your chances to acquire customers, followers etc.

9. Track Everything.

No, really. If you haven't set up all of the needed tracking tools for your website then I recommend you dropping whatever you're doing right now and connect them to your WIX, Wordpress, Squarespace, Shopify, Clickfunnels etc website. The number of those tools, of course, depends of the kind of marketing actions you are doing. I guess, the most important for almost anyone would be Google Analytics and Facebook Pixel.

Thanks to good quality content you will fullfil the need of your visitors in valuable information. This will bring in more traffic and increase chances for conversion, whatever it is your goal is.
